Optimizing Group Performance - E=mcs2

Mission

Set aside a specific time to get your group together to develop your mission, guiding principles, and driving force behind the mission

  • Establish a Greater Purpose: WHAT do we want to accomplish that reaches beyond individuals and the team/group/family?
  • Uncover WHY it is so important to achieve this mission
  • HOW will we accomplish this? What does the optimal performance culture look like?  What has worked well? What hasn't worked well? Define and align on Core Values or Guiding Principles

Connection

  • Is WHAT we do contributing towards the team/group/family mission?
  • Is HOW we do it aligned with our Core Values?
  • What needs to be added? 
  • What needs to be eliminated? 
  • How are daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly activities aligned to the team/group/family mission and personal goals/motivators?
  • Are individual wins celebrated as group wins contributing towards the group mission? 
  • How can people outside the group be partnered with to further the mission? 
  • Does each group member realize their role on enhancing or undermining the optimal culture?
  • How can each individual add value to one another?
  • How can the group better advocate for one another?
  • How can individuals better personally connect?
  • What can be done as a leader to better connect with each individual? 

Simple & Specific

  • Are the mission and values simple & specific?
  • Are activities connected to the mission, values and culture related in a simple & specific way?

Smother

  • How are individual contributions and accomplishments recognized and reinforced that contribute to the mission, values and group culture? 
  • How are the actions and discussions that undermine the culture dissuaded?
  • How often is "what's working well" and "what's not working well" assessed?
  • What role does each individual play with reinforcing the culture and dissuading activities that undermine the culture?
